Gold Panning on the Pend Oreille river

After our week long prospecting course we had the opportunity to gold pan on a claim along the Pend Oreille river. Gerald was our guide, showing us all the right moves and sharing his knowledge too. It was a challenge to get things swirling just right, Gerald held our pans with us and guided our movements so we could really get a feel for it. Gold panning is truly an art! I found a few minuscule flakes, garnet bits and an interesting, perfectly rectangular Magnetite crystal.

It was a gorgeous, sunny day on the river. Gerald suggested I send these baby on the back photos to the chamber of mines saying –  “Ive never seen that before…and I don’t think they have either” Ha-ha.
